We see the proposed future development of Westgate serving as the community and commercial heart of the north west of the City, with more than 10,000 new local jobs offering viable solutions to the lack of choice and growing economic and social pressures Waitakere residents grapple with every day.
With 60% of the working population leaving the City each day to work, fuel prices at circa $2.00 a litre and the squeeze of rising household costs and high mortgage rates, there is a very real economic, environmental and social urgency to start building a new town centre at Westgate – sooner rather than later.
The future development of Westgate is a unique proposal; an opportunity to deliver an exceptional world class town, bringing unparalleled benefits economically, socially and environmentally to the City and its residents, in a location strategically placed to serve as a regional hub.
The success of this major regional initiative demands clear vision, strong leadership and the forging of supportive relationships based on mutual respect. NZRPG is proud of its association and partnership with Waitakere City Council that has brought us to this point. With over eight years in the planning, we are nearing the end of the beginning. With local and regional government acting as its champion the future development of Westgate will be able to deliver a sustainable urban future for the benefit of its community and the wider region.
With the commencement of earthworks on the 1st October 2010, NZRPG is targeting opening dates for retail opportunities in Spring 2012.
